Does Ceramic or Porcelain Last Longer?
Porcelain tiles are often more durable and typically last longer than ceramic tiles, as they have fewer air pockets, which are equally distributed throughout their construction.
This doesn’t mean Ceramic is weak, as it is perfectly adjusted to moderate foot traffic and everyday use. While they may be slightly more porous and not relatively as rigid as porcelain, they’re still a fantastic option for areas with moderate foot traffic, such as bathrooms, feature walls, and even bedroom floors. In fact, for many homes, Ceramic is more than strong enough for everyday use. Plus, its slightly softer composition makes it easier to cut and install, which can be a significant advantage if you’re tackling a DIY project.
Because porcelain is generally more resistant to moisture, stains, and scratches, it does come with a higher price tag. But that extra investment can be worth it in the long run, especially for areas that see a lot of activity or are exposed to water.
Whichever one you choose, save at least half a dozen full tiles from the job. That way, if something happens and you need to do a repair, you have matching tiles waiting for you.
